Eastern Railway (ER) is one of the 19 zones of Indian Railways, established through the integration of the East Indian Railway’s divisions—Sealdah, Howrah, Asansol, and Danapur—and the Bengal Nagpur Railway. ER operates across West Bengal, Jharkhand, and parts of Bihar, managing major stations like Howrah and Sealdah. It oversees both passenger and freight services and is known for operating India’s oldest train, the Kalka Mail. ER has achieved full electrification of its network and continues to modernize infrastructure. The zone plays a vital role in regional connectivity and economic development, offering services like tourist trains, health schemes for employees, and digital ticketing platforms.
